Workshops

CLARO offers from three to five professional development workshops for educators every academic year.. Workshops have a unifying theme and involve seminar presentations, hands-on-activities and live presentations of artistic and cultural expressions. Workshop attendees receive free instructional packets with appropriate curriculum content materials for classroom adaptation.

Examples of past workshops, which can be repeated by request, are: Teaching Spanish using Spanish Literary Classics - Teaching Spanish with Poetry, Food: Are you really what you eat? "Voces Poéticas: Children's Spanish Poetry Contest"

This contest is the landmark event for the Center. CLARO is the sole originator and organizer of this poetry recitation contest in 2000. The contest is open to area school students in the 1st to the 5th grades. VOCES POÉTICAS objective is to support the acquisition of the Spanish language and to encourage the development of true bilingual education by means of poetry as an expression of culture. More than 50 students finalist participate each year. For information and registration for the eight Voces Poéticas: contest, conact Dr. Kelly.
